Workplace Safety: Build Awareness & Safer Work Practices

Workplace safety is a shared responsibility. Organizations have legal obligations regarding safety, but effective safety practices also depend on employees and managers consistently following established standards and procedures. Identifying and anticipating hazards can help prevent injuries and keep employees safe. Safety in the Workplace provides participants with an overview of common workplace hazards, safety techniques, and the key elements involved in developing and implementing a workplace safety plan. Participants will explore workplace safety and health legislation, roles and duties, and safety planning. The course examines common hazards including computer workstations, ergonomics, fire prevention, fitness and wellness, heat stress, stress, and workplace violence. The course also addresses the manager's role in promoting and enforcing safety standards, developing health and safety programs, understanding responsibilities, and supporting a safety-focused corporate culture. Training is covered through orientation, on-the-job training, safety meetings, and planning and conducting training sessions. Participants will also explore stress management through altering, avoiding, and accepting stress, along with relaxation techniques and routines. The course continues with workplace violence, company hazard inspections, prioritizing deficiencies, reporting and follow-up, and drug and alcohol abuse. Finally, participants will learn the key components of writing and implementing a safety plan, including management and employee involvement, assigned responsibilities, accident investigations, employee training, and follow-through.
