Workplace Harassment: Prevention Awareness & Respect

Workplace harassment can be based on factors such as race, sex, and disability, and an uncomfortable workplace situation may have serious consequences. Understanding how to recognize and address harassment is important for creating a safe environment for everyone. Workplace Harassment begins with the legal background of harassment, identifying harassment, and understanding the importance of anti-harassment policies. Participants will explore what should be included in an anti-harassment policy, how model policies work, steps toward a healthy workplace, and the importance of educating employees. The course examines employee and employer rights and responsibilities, followed by proper workplace procedures. Participants will explore what to do if they are being harassed, what to do if they are accused of harassment, how investigations work, and potential remedies. Additional topics include handling false allegations, maintaining confidentiality, monitoring situations, preventing retaliation, and understanding appeals. Participants will also explore other options such as union grievance procedures and mediation. The course specifically addresses sexual harassment, including its definition, elements, and common scenarios. Mediation and conflict resolution are then explored through deciding whether mediation is appropriate, implementing it, seeing both sides, and determining consequences. Finally, participants will examine the aftermath of workplace harassment by learning how to move forward, monitor situations, and learn from mistakes.
