Conducting Effective Employee Reviews: Feedback Performance & Development

A well-designed annual review can give employees valuable feedback, strengthen engagement, and keep performance moving in the right direction. A poorly handled review, however, can have the opposite effect. Conducting Annual Employee Reviews helps participants develop a practical approach to planning and conducting meaningful employee reviews. Participants will explore how to develop the review process, establish benchmarks early, reach agreement on expectations, and hold effective review meetings. The course examines key performance categories including company mission and values, customer service and quality control, problem solving and judgment, production, work style, resource management, communication skills, and teamwork. Participants will also learn to recognize common review mistakes and biases, including the contrast effect, similarity bias, halo and horn effects, central tendency, leniency, first impression bias, rater bias, and recency effects. The training also explores pay for performance, connecting employee compensation with firm-wide returns, communicating expectations effectively, and using regular conversations and mentoring to support employees. Participants will also explore meaningful questions that can help gauge employee happiness, productivity, recognition, growth opportunities, and confidence in leadership.
