Business Succession Planning: Building a Strong Leadership Continuity Plan

Business Succession Planning helps participants understand why organizations need to prepare people for future leadership responsibilities. The course begins by distinguishing succession planning from replacement planning and explores how to determine what the organization needs. Participants will learn how to prepare for the planning process by setting parameters, considering whether to establish a committee, and gathering operational data. The course then moves into developing mission and vision statements, mentoring, and using SWOT analysis to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Participants will explore how to develop and execute a succession plan, assign responsibility and authority, establish monitoring systems, gain organizational support, and address concerns. The course also covers change and communication planning, constructive criticism, growth and development, overcoming roadblocks, evaluating progress, and managing the transition toward successful succession.
